10 Points of Departure. The exhibition focuses on a younger generation of artists who, in different ways, relate to the meaning of materials. Materials and methods may be utilised as bearers of meaning of different contents and expressions, a way of employing material as motive, a phenomenological study of a material or artistic strategies where material is the point of departure.

The ten exhibitors are all recent graduates from various art academies in the Nordic countries.

Participating artists: Maria Quarfordt Brising (SE), Helga Sif Gudmundsdottir (IS), Erik Hellsten (SE), Karl David Larsson (SE), Anna Linder (SE), Ingela Nilsson (SE), Lisa Petrelius (SE), Disa Rytt (SE), Kirsti Willemse (NO) and Melina Ånstrand (SE).

Curators: Inger Bergström and Lotte Nilsson-Välimaa (SE)

Kirsti Willemse
Born in1985 in Oslo. Lives and works in Oslo. BA, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, 2010.
In a series of objects the border between different concepts and the methods of creating textiles is explored.

Melina Ånstrand
Born in 1979 in Stockholm. Lives and works in Stockholm. MA, Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm, 2009.
Mental states become physical acts in the video State of Mind; movements in space, material against the body, body againt the space. In another work the focus is on the woven towel; a domestic handicraft or a sculptural object?

Curators:

Inger Bergström
Using the potency of textile techniques and the materials’ inherent references is what characterises her work. The focus is often on the three-dimensional and the spatial in which textile is employed as a kind of building material. Inger Bergström was educated at Konstfack, University of Art, Crafts and Design, Stockholm where she is professor.

Lotte Nilsson-Välimaa
Educated at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design Stockholm, in textiles and sculpture. Introducing something of the private into the public is a red thread in her work. In her photo and material based work, the human being appears to be engaged in an activity. Collaborations in various constellations of artists are ongoing in parallel to her own activities.
